The Black Reach

Dangerous seas, living leviathans, kingdoms carried across their backs, memory as power, and people forced to decide what survival is allowed to cost.

A vast Black Reach city spread across the living back of a leviathan in open sea
Canon foundation

The city did not float. It breathed.

The visual direction of this site follows the manuscript: permanent cities rise across living leviathans in open water. No land-based city is used as the visual foundation of the Black Reach.

Living leviathans

Kingdom-scale bodies

Leviathans are not decorative monsters beneath a city. The city is built across the creature itself: ridges, shell, flanks, harbours, and districts all move with it.

Moving kingdoms

Nothing is truly fixed

The great political powers of the Reach travel through the sea. Movement, depth, currents, and the leviathans' choices can change the fate of everyone above.

Memory

Evidence and power

Memory can be extracted, traded, hidden, recovered, challenged, and weaponized. What people remember — and who controls it — has political consequences.

Mareth

A drowned kingdom

Mareth and Edrane sit at the emotional and historical center of the opening trilogy. The site keeps the deeper truth spoiler-light for new readers.

Realms named in the story

Six names shape the political map.

The current site deliberately avoids inventing pairings, capitals, or geography that the manuscript does not establish clearly enough for public canon.

Avarre

Carried by Nhalor. Crownspire, harbours, terraces, markets, palaces, and lower districts are built into the living city.

Kharad

Ironwake is built across Brannoc: furnace towers between armoured plates, bridges across living joints, and industrial systems designed around restraint.

Seryth

Home of the White Archive and bound to Vaelith, whose shell is integrated into some of Seryth’s oldest submerged archive architecture.

Caldris

A fleet kingdom built for motion across Ossael’s armour, with storm towers, shipyards, articulated bridges, and vessels able to detach as he turns.

Veloria

Home of Lantern Court and its pearl-memory systems. In the Lantern Court era, the city floats on twelve linked pearl barges rather than resting on Mirren.

Mareth

The lost sixth kingdom, carried by Edrane before its drowning.

Worldbuilding with a pulse.

The lore guides separate what the books establish from what readers still have to discover for themselves.

The Black Reach is designed to grow. New series can open new corners of the same world without forcing the reader to start over.
